Please Hold the Line
Pavel Cuzuioc, AUT 2020, 86 min, OmeU
Pavel Cuzuioc accompanied telecommunication technicians on their missions in Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine and made a film about being connected to the world. »Please Hold the Line« takes the viewers to people who have difficulties connecting the phone, the internet or even the TV remote control. While the technicians go about their work with empathy and stoic calm, there is time to talk: about the neighborhood, capitalism and the Mesozoic, everyday life and religion. In addition to these conversations, the soundtrack repeatedly features set pieces from the television universe, whose interference-free reception is mostly at stake. And while the cable tangle in the switch boxes and on the pylons proves to be surprisingly easy to maintain and repair, many of the protagonists are dissatisfied, with the television program anyway – and above all with the state of the world.
In our program ‘Please Hold the Line’ is the second film on opening day. And we celebrate the opening afterwards at the Après-dok in the Jupi Bar in the Gängeviertel (Caffamacherreihe 37-39). From 11pm under 2G conditions.
